This is, Housecall for Health…
2015 had plenty to offer as far as memorable health news Here are our top five moments:
- Hollywood bad-boy Charlie Sheen revealed that he is HIV-positive. The actor said he tested positive for the virus about four years ago.
- A bombshell report from the World Health Organization claimed that eating processed meat can cause bowel cancer, while red meat is likely cause of the disease. WHO further placed processed meat like hot dogs and ham in the same category as tobacco, asbestos and diesel fumes.
- The American Cancer Society recommended that women at average risk of breast cancer get annual mammograms starting at age 45 rather than at age 40, and that women 55 and older scale back screening to every other year.
- The FDA approved the first drug to treat low sexual desire in women dubbed the female Viagra — but warned about potentially dangerous low blood pressure and fainting side effects.
- The egg regained popularity as new dietary guidelines reversed previous beliefs about their role in cholesterol levels.
