Close Encounter Between U.S. and Russian Jets in Syria
U.S. and Russian jets came within miles of each other over war-torn Syria recently.
FOX News Radio’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:
The United States and Russia are both conducting military operations in the skies over Syria. The close encounter came as the former Cold War foes talk about safety protocols.
(Warren) “It’s dangerous if two sets of aircraft come into the same piece of airspace without very clearly laid out protocols.”
U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren told a Pentagon briefing in this case, both pilots conducted themselves appropriately.
Washington and Moscow are both committed to defeating ISIS, but have different ideas for completing the mission. The U.S. wants to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while Russia wants to work with Assad’s military to combat the terror group.
