"Both Newt and I are really committed citizens. I really don't think Newt will be the next Speaker. But I think if we are called to duty in any way, we have an obligation to listen and to help." -Callista Gingrich
Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker Of The House & author, "Duplicity: A Novel" & Callista Gingrich, author "Christmas In America", joined Kilmeade & Friends to talk about the latest on the Republicans search for a new Speaker of the House , whether or not Newt will become the next Speaker, why Trey Gowdy is the right man to lead the Benghazi Select Committee and their new books.
Newt on Paul Ryan becoming the next Speaker:
"He is a brilliant guy, probably the most intellectual guy in the House Republican Party and if it all fell in place, I feel he would be very impressive as Speaker. My only concern is he makes sure the conferences understood what it's doing before taking the job so he doesn't get caught in the same problems as Boehner & McCarthy and get chewed up."
Newt on his chances of becoming the next Speaker despite not being an active member of Congress:
"My view on this is it has never happened. I don't think it will happen because it's almost impossible for an outsider to be able to lead the house. But I am very prepared and I have been talking with a number of members individually, I am very prepared to help the House Republicans think through what they are doing but they ought to find a leader among a very talented group of people."
Newt on Trey Gowdy leading Benghazi Select Committee and Democrats calling the committee a partisan attack on Hillary:
"Trey Gowdy is a very good prosecutor who is fully prepared....Hillary will have a lot to answer for."
Newt also feels that Kevin McCarthy's comments about the Benghazi committee will be forgotten after the hearing is completed.
"Trey Gowdy has done his homework. He has a professional staff and I think they are prepared for this hearing and I think when it's over, nobody is going to remember what Kevin McCarthy said."
