Better Late Than Never!… Overdue Library Book Makes Its Way Back 52 Years Later
They didn’t need to call a library cop, but a Connecticut library did get back a book that was decades overdue.
FOX’s Lisa Lacerra with the story:
It’s a story straight out of Seinfeld
(Seinfeld) “You took this book out in 1971… Yes and I returned it in 1971… Yeah ’71, that was my first year on the job. Bad year for libraries.”
A book made its way back to the Noah Webster Library in West Hartford, Connecticut, more than 50 years overdue
(Seinfeld) “Look Mr. Bookman. I returned that book… I remember it very specifically… You’re a comedian, you make people laugh… You think this is all a big joke?… No I don’t…”
Library staff say they don’t know who returned the copy of W.O. Mitchell’s “Who Has Seen the Wind”. It was returned with a sticky note, which read, “Sorry it has taken so long.” The book was originally due back September 29 1965.
Library director Martha Church says she doesn’t know how much the fine would be for keeping the book so long.
The current fine is 15 cents per day.
