GOP Intel Chair: Don’t Take President Trump’s Wiretapping Tweets Literally

Top members of the House Intelligence Community haven’t seen any evidence supporting President Trump’s claim he was wiretapped by the previous President.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

There was not an actual tap of Trump Tower, House Intelligence Committee chairman Republican Devin Nunes tells reporters responding to claims made by President Trump in on social media:

(Nunes) “Are you gonna take the tweets literally? And if you are, then clearly the President was wrong.”

The committee’s top Democrat Adam Schiff says if no evidence is presented, President Trump must explain himself:

(Schiff) “You can’t level an accusation of that type without either retracting it or explaining just why it was done.”

The Intelligence Committee will have a public hearing next week with testimony from FBI Director James Comey about the investigation into Russian interference of the 2016 election.
