Report: U.S. Held Iran Payment Until Release of Prisoners

There’s a new report about a controversial payment to Iran, which Republicans claim was ransom.

FOX’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

The Obama administration claims there was no quid pro quo involved in the release of Americans from Iran earlier this year, but a new report says the U.S. held a cargo plane loaded with the equivalent of $400 million until after they were set free.

The “Wall Street Journal” reports an Iranian plane picked up euros and francs from Switzerland, but Iranians were not allowed to take control of the cash until after the freed U.S. citizens were on their way home.

President Obama has said the money was the first installment in an settlement over a failed 1979 arms deal.
