Having memory issues? Researchers are investigating if memory recall is affected by an individual's weight.
FOX's Alex Hein reports:
Having a big belly can be cause for concern for a number of health reasons like heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
And now, according to researchers at the University of Cambridge, a bigger belly may also signal trouble for your brain.
In a study, overweight participants scored 15% lower on memory recall tests than normal-weight people.
Researchers suggest that having a higher body mass index may hurt your memory, but they aren't exactly sure why. They believe that fat, rather than high amounts of muscle, are likely the key factor.
Another researcher told Men's Health that its possible that it may not be the fat causing the memory problems, but that people with poorer memories are more likely to put on extra weight.
If this is the case, we should try to make meals more memorable so you are less likely to be distracted which can lead to overeating.
