The National Rifle Association is challenging a pro-gun control group led by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
FOX News Radio's Jeff Monosso reports from New York City:
NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre says that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg can't buy America. Bloomberg's group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, will begin spending millions on ads meant to pressure Senators to back gun control, but LaPierre argues that current gun laws aren't enforced and says of new proposals:
(LaPierre) "It slows down the law-abiding and does nothing to anybody else."
Though Bloomberg also tells NBC's "Meet the Press":
(Bloomberg) "This isn't about Wayne LaPierre. This is about the public wanting to be safe on their streets."
The mayor wants assault weapons and large ammunition clips banned, as well as universal background checks. Gun control has so far failed to win support in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
