Johnson & Johnson, ViaCyte Testing Type 1 Diabetes Cure
There’s new hope for a cure for diabetes. The type one form that usually hits people when they are kids or teens.
FOX’s Eben Brown reports:
Johnson & Johnson and biotech firm ViaCyte, are working on a stem-cell based treatment for Type 1 diabetes.
It uses embryonic stem cells, and they’re converted into insulin producing cells, and they’re implanted into the patient. They’ve been testing it with great success in animals, and the companies say if they can repeat the performance in people, it would amount to a cure for more than one and a quarter million Americans with Type 1 diabetes.
The method might even be adoptable to Type 2, or adult-onset.
