Farm Owners Appeal Fine for Refusing a Lesbian Wedding
New York state farm owners who were fined after refusing to host a lesbian wedding are appealing the ruling.
FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has details:
The owners of Liberty Ridge Farm are filing an appeal in Albany after being fined $13,000 for refusing to host a same-sex wedding.
New York’s Division of Human Rights ruled the business owned by Robert and Cynthia Gifford violated the state’s anti-discrimination law.
The Giffords had cited their Christian beliefs that marriage is between a man and a woman as the reason for not hosting the wedding of Melissa and Jennie McCarthy in 2013.
The New York Civil Liberties Union represented the McCarthys, saying the Giffords didn’t have the right to discriminate against the couple.
Lawyers for the Giffords say they were exercising their constitutional rights.
