Motor Voters: Oregon Adopts Automatic Voter Registration

Plenty of states have been making it tougher to vote, with photo ID requirements. But Oregon is going in the opposite direction, and automatically registering voters.

FOX News Radio’s Jill Nado reports:

Oregon sends mail-in ballots to all its voters. And now it’s going to be sending out even more, thanks to the newly enacted motor-voter law. Anyone who’s been to a Driver and Motor Vehicle Services office since 2013 is going to get a ballot in the mail, without having to register to vote.

Democratic Governor Kate Brown:

(Brown) “Virtually every Oregonian will be able to have their voice be heard.”

Some Republicans turned thumbs down on the idea, saying registering to vote should be a voluntary act, not an automatic one. About 300,000 new voters are expected to be added to the rolls.
