DHS Gets A Budget, Immigration Policy Standoff Ends
The Department of Homeland Security has gotten a budget and conservative House Republicans have lost a fierce fight.
FOX News Radio’s Steve Taylor reports from Washington.
The battle was over using a Homeland Security budget bill to reverse Obama administration immigration policy. Representative Matt Salmon argued…
(Salmon) ”If we’re not gonna fight now, when are we gonna fight?”
But, other Republican members decided there was a larger issue involved in fighting immigration law this way. Representative Mike Simpson warned:
(Simpson) “What it will lead to is a close down of the Department of Homeland Security and that is not a victory. That is dangerous.”
A majority of Republicans voted with Democrats to approve the department budget without the immigration law challenge.
