House Republicans Scrap Controversial Abortion Bill
Pro-life activists will march on Washington Thursday, 42 years after the Roe v. Wade ruling legalized abortion. In the House, a plan to ban some abortions has abruptly been scrapped.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington:
It was supposed to be a show of support for anti-abortion marchers. Instead, House Republicans have scrapped plans to debate a bill that would have banned most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
GOP support for the measure fell apart as women and moderates balked at a provision that allows for exceptions in cases of rape and incest only if a police report is filed. North Carolina Republican Renee Ellmers arguing the law should not question a woman’s word.
The measure was unlikely to pass the Senate. The White House signaled a veto, as well.
