Earthquake Hits Napa, CA [VIDEO]
There’s structural damage to a lot of homes in Northern California following a 6.0 earthquake Sunday morning.
FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal has more.
USGS seismologist Bill Barnhart says this earthquake happened on a well known fault – the West Napa Fault,and is what is called a strike slip quake.
(Barnhart) ”The surface of the earth on either side of the fault just moving horizontally past each other.”
It caused a lot of visible damage. Fires damaged or destroyed some homes, including six at a mobile home park. Bricks from buildings lay on the sidewalks, here. Businesses have broken windows, bottles and spills.
(Resident) “We have a private water system. We lost 30,000 gallons. All the pipes broke so all the tanks drained.”
Dozens of homes and buildings have been red tagged as unsafe to enter.

It was the biggest earthquake in the Bay Area in 25 years – 170 people were hurt, some seriously.

Four homes burned in a mobile home park after the quake ruptured a gas line.
(Resident 1) “It’s amazing how panicky you get though; you just don’t… once I saw the flames, I was like – I just have to get out of here ‘cuz it’s so close. It was only like three houses away.”
But, inside her home, she didn’t sustain any damage. Others whose homes didn’t burn were still not as lucky.
(Resident 2) “The whole east wall just came right at us. And, everything on that wall came flying at us.”
Dozens of homes had been red tagged. Some buildings downtown lost entire walls. And, several businesses sustained broken windows and products.
