AEHQ: Mississippi GOP Senate Primary Too Close To Call
The Mississippi Republican Senate primary race between six-term incumbent Thad Cochran and Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel is still too close to call, but decisions have been made in several other states that held primaries Tuesday night.
FOX News Radio’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:
From America’s Election Headquarters.
Iowa State Senator Joni Ernst picked up the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. She managed to bridge the gap between Tea Partiers and the establishment, winning the support of former Presidential nominee Mitt Romney and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
(Rubio) “Not only do I think Joni’s message is going to unite Republicans in Iowa and across the country, I think it’s going to help unite Americans at a time where we desperately need to be united after six years of divide and conquer from this President and the Democrats.”
She’ll take on Representative Bruce Braley, a Democrat who avoided primary competition, this fall.
In Montana, Steve Daines picks up the GOP Senate nomination. He’ll get a shot at Democratic Senator John Walsh, who was just appointed to the seat four months ago when Senator Max Baucus left to go be U.S. Ambassador to China.
Former South Dakota Republican Governor Mike Rounds won his state’s GOP nomination to challenge Democratic business owner Rick Weiland, who’s running unopposed in that state’s Senate race .
Republicans see the Senate contests in Montana and South Dakota as key races where there’s a real chance they could pick up Democratic seats.
