Police Officer Memorial Week in DC [VIDEO]
By FOX News Radio’s Mike Majchrowitz
Dozens of officers on horseback descended on the White House Wednesday, startling tourists who began furiously snapping pictures. No, no one called in the cavalry. The mounted officers are taking part in National Police Officers Memorial week in the nation’s capital.
Shortly before the horses arrived, a bobby and a gendarme strolled down Pennsylvania Avenue, adding some international camaraderie to the occasion. Thursday, is Police Officer Memorial Day, first declared by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. This year the names of 286 fallen officers will be added to the wall. Most of the officers were killed in 2013 but some of the deaths go back as far as 1845.
