Samsung says it wants to install a kill switch inside people’s phones to make them inoperable in the event they’re lost or stolen. But carriers like AT&T and Verizon are against this idea. They’re being represented by a trade group called CTIA The Wireless Association which says a kill switch could make phones vulnerable to hackers. Law enforcement and prosecutors around the country have been asking for something like a kill switch to be installed in phones. Last year nearly one-in-three robberies in the U.S. involved phone theft.
