Consultations Over Syria
The White House steps up consultations with members of Congress before the President makes a decision on military action against Syria.
FOX News Radio’s Mike Majchrowitz reports from the White House:
President Obama personally called House Speaker John Boehner about Syria — a few hours before a briefing for other members of Congress from administration officials.
Some military action is expected — Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest insists U.S. security interests are involved.
(Earnest) “We know they are sitting on a large stockpile of chemical weapons they’ve demonstrated a willingness to use it.”
Oklahoma Republican Senator James Inhofe opposes intervention saying the President is acting out of political necessity.
(Inhofe) “He painted himself into a corner with his red line comment without defining what a red line was but now he knows he has to do something.”
Inhofe also says a U.S. military weakened by recent budget cuts shouldn’t be further strained.
