More Women Breadwinners

A new study shows that a record number of American women are the sole or primary breadwinners in their families.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Knight reports:

Back in 1960, women were the primary wage-earners in just 11% of American families. Now, it’s up to 40%. The Pew Research Center study also finds that of those, 63% are single mothers. 37% are married.

The trend is being driven by long-term demographic changes. Women, who make up 47% of the workforce, are more likely than men to have bachelor’s degrees. And, 40% of births are out of wedlock.

The study finds that 45% of women say children are better off if their mother is home, 38% say kids are just as well off if the mother works.
