Folk Legend Richie Havens Dies at 72

Legendary folk singer and guitarist Richie Havens, the man who holds a unique place in musical lore, has died.

FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady reports:

His strumming and voice are part of the Woodstock legacy.

Richie Havens was first to perform at the 1969 music festival, returning to the site during the 40th anniversary and telling AP that everything in his life, and so many others, is “attached to that train.”  The Brooklyn-born Havens also known for his covers.

He released more than two dozen albums and performed at President Clinton’s 1993 inauguration, but after 45 years of touring, had finally slowed down following kidney surgery.  A family statement says he died of a heart attack Monday.

Richie Havens was 72.
