Securing America: Defense During Sequester
The highest-ranking commander of the U.S. Armed Forces says the sequester cuts are producing changes, and those changes could be a threat.
FOX News Radio’s Jill Nado reports from Washington in our ongoing series on national security:
Securing America.
Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey says the strategy for the national defense is going to have to change because of the sequester cuts in ways he doesn’t know yet, but he says he does know:
(Gen. Dempsey) “Sequestration is, quite simply, the most irresponsible way possible to manage the nation’s defense.”
Dempsey, at the Center for Strategic International Studies, saying if left in place, the sequester:
(Gen. Dempsey) “Could lead to a security gap, a lapse in coverage against the threats to our national security interest.”
He tried to assure the crowd that the Armed Forces will lead their way through this.
