Housecall for Health: Distracted Driving Overestimated?
An investigation finds that a deadly crash involving school buses in Missouri was likely caused by a texting driver, killed in the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that state ban all drive use of cellphones and other electronic devices. But is distracted driving really as big an epidemic as it seems?
FOX’s Colleen Cappon found a new report that says maybe not, and details it in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
Distracted driving has become a big public health issue in recent years, but one study says that the risk of having a car crash because of talking or texting on the cellphone may have been overestimated.
Data published in the journal Epidemiology shows that different study methods of several major studies on the subject led to conflicting results, making some researchers believe that the actual number of crashes associated with cellphone use is significantly lower than originally thought.
