FOX on Tech: High-Tech Salvation Army
One well-known charity is going high-tech to help you help others.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig explains:
Every year, after Thanksgiving, Salvation Army workers ring in their biggest donation season, collecting cash and coins in their iconic red kettles. But the times…they are a’changin’.
((There’s an app for that.))
In four U.S. cities, bell ringers are now carrying smart phones enabled with a special payment system called Square, which helps you make a quick credit card donation.
(Hood) “The screen comes up and says ‘How much would you like to donate?’ You put in the number and then swipe your credit card through the device, and it reads the card.”
Major George Hood says they tested other credit card terminals last year, but they were time consuming and vulnerable to bad weather.
