Fewer Americans Dying from Cancer
A new cancer study shows fewer Americans have been dying in recent years.
FOX’s Dave Anthony reports:
Between 1980 and 2014, more than 19 million Americans died of cancer. But the rate of death has been declining, down 20 percent, from the first to the last year of that University of Washington-led study analyzing the disease.
Better screening and improved treatment are cited as key factors, but the research also shows regional disparities in poorer parts of America, where obesity and smoking are more prevalent.
Cancer death rates rose nearly 50 percent, while wealthier areas had rates cut nearly in half. In 2014, six of the top 10 counties with the highest cancer death rates were in Eastern Kentucky.
Six of top 10 counties with the lowest rates were in Colorado ski country.
