U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Comes Up with a Polar Bear Recovery Plan

U.S. wildlife officials come up with a plan they hope will help polar bears avoid being further endangered.

FOX’s Dave Anthony reports:

The polar bear has been listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act for eight years and now the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a plan to help the bears recover.

Protecting their dens, preventing oil spill contamination and reducing conflicts with people. But critics like the Center for Biological Diversity call that toothless because the plan does not address climate change and the loss of arctic sea ice, which is seen as a threat to polar bear survival.

But U.S. Fish and Wildlife has no authority to deal with reducing greenhouse gases. Some polar bear populations have actually increased in recent years like in Canada and Norway.
