Fort Lauderdale Airport Shooting Suspect Appears in Court

The alleged gunman in Friday’s attack on a Fort Lauderdale airport that left five dead made his first court appearance Monday.

FOX’s Eben Brown has more from Fort Lauderdale:

The proceedings didn’t last long. Esteban Santiago appeared in court shackled and in a prisoners jumpsuit.

He seemed nervous, even jittery, and spoke very little beyond yes or no answers, keeping his eyes down, even when answering the judges questions.

A public defender is now assigned to him. Santiago is charged with using a firearm to attack people inside an airport. Five are dead and two remain in critical condition. He could potentially face a death penalty.
