Taxpayers May Benefit If Chargers Leave San Diego
If the Chargers leave San Diego, it wouldn’t be all bad news for city taxpayers.

Instead of the Chargers paying rent, San Diego actually paid the team more than a million dollars last year to play at Qualcomm Stadium…
Their $3 million in rent were offset by concessions and credits, including money as part of a settlement over accessibility for those with disabilities at the stadium.
The Chargers weren’t part of that lawsuit, but demanded compensation for lost seats and the related loss in concessions and merchandising when the city made the stadium ADA compliant.
Since 2007, the team has made more than $4.5 million off their lease, instead of paying the $28.7 million in rent stipulated. The last time they paid the city: 2006, a charge totaling $20,369.
