Child Obesity Down
A study of young children offers a ray of hope in the fight against obesity.
FOX’s Lisa Brady reports:
CDC researchers say these are unexpected results. The rate of obesity risk for children up to age two, declining from nearly 15 percent in 2010 to 12 percent in 2014.
The children studied are part of the government program known as WIC, nutrition Assistance for low-income women and children.
The CDC says it’s too soon to know if the decline is fluke or real progress, but there’ve been changes in recent years to offer healthier choices, including more fruits, veggies and whole grains.
And previous CDC results found a similar decline for older children in the program and for young children in general, during national campaigns against childhood obesity.
But there’s a long way to go. The obesity rate for U.S. kids ages 12 to 19 is nearly 21 percent.
