Students Take on Learning to Code
Young people around the world will be doing the same high-tech task for at least an hour this week.
FOX’s Jane Metzler has more on the Hour of Code:
Those are three-year-olds from California’s Stratford school and they’re working with “algorithms”, programming a toy robot and learning coding.
(Gupta) “I think it’s one of those necessary skills, like reading, writing, math, foreign language. The things that kids need to have for 21st Century jobs.”
Stratford’s curriculum director Monisha Gupta:
(Gupta) “The kind of thinking that comes with learning to code, that’s useful and very disciplined.”
For a fourth year, students on Stratford’s 22 campuses are participating in Code.org’s global “Hour of Code” activities this week with Stratford eighth graders in Northern California, teaming up to create computer coded illustrations for stories written by L.A. area preschoolers.
