Officials Update Ohio State University Attack
More information has come to light surrounding Monday’s attack at Ohio State University.
FOX’s Jessica Rosenthal has the latest:
FBI Special Agent in Charge Angela Byers says the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for such attacks before when the assailant is dead and can’t refute the claim:
(Byers) “It’s too soon to draw any type of conclusions whether or not this is terrorism.”
She says the investigation will be a long one and they have a lot of digital media to go through:
(Byers) “We are looking at the Facebook posts and trying to determine the authentication so that is one thing that leads us to believe that it’s possible that he may have been inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki.”
As well as the Islamic State. Abdul Razak Ali Artan reportedly wrote in one post that he was sick and tired of seeing Muslims killed and tortured around the world.
Byers confirms he was a Somali refugee who came to the U.S. a couple of years ago with his family from Pakistan. Monday Artan used a vehicle to ram people on the OSU campus and then used a knife to continue attacking people.
11 were injured, though none sustained life threatening injuries. Artan was killed by a campus police officer.
