AT&T Set to Buy Time Warner
AT&T has reached a mega-deal to acquire Time Warner, but what does this mean for consumers?
FOX’s Tonya J. Powers takes a look:
Phone giant AT&T is buying Time Warner, home of HBO, DC Comics, and Warner Films and TV for $85 billion.
So, what does this mean for us, the consumers? Well, AT&T could make it more expensive to access Time Warner programming.
AT&T could also include Time Warner shows in zero-rating plans, now, that’s where a company’s own content isn’t counted in data plans.
There is opposition, with some saying the merger shouldn’t happen and concerns are already being voiced by some members of the Senate’s antitrust subcommittee.
The deal still has to be approved by Time Warner shareholders and get the okay from the Department of Justice and possibly the FCC, which is not expected until later next year.
