Dale Earnhardt Jr. Out for the Rest of the Year
NASCAR’s most popular driver will have to sit out the rest of the 2016 season.
FOX’s Marghiee Teshineh has the details:
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not race again this season. Hendrick Motorsports announcing that Earnhardt, driver of the 88 car, who has missed the last six races because of concussion like symptoms will not return.
In a statement released Friday, team owner Rick Hendrick said, “I know how hard Dale has worked and how frustrating this is for him. He wants to be back, and we want him back, but we want it to be for the long haul.”
Earnhardt’s former team mate, Jeff Gordon will fill in the next two weeks at Darlington and then Richmond. Alex Bowman will finish out the races after those.
Earnhardt in a written statement said it was disappointing, but, “I know this is the right thing for my long-term health and career.”
