Single Parents Look to Get Back on the Dating Scene

It may be hard for single parents to get back out there in the dating game, but sometimes you have to take a chance.

FOX’s Ashley Papa has this week’s “FOX on Love”:

A common concern about single parents looking to get back into the dating scene is they feel guilty for leaving their kids to go out.

Or, they worry about the perception of having “baggage”, says parenting expert and CEO of DivaMoms.com, Lyss Stern:

(Stern) “A lot of times you hear parents that are about to go out and date again, that they are feeling this angst and a little bit of anxiety, however at the same time, it’s really good for the person to get out there again and start dating and to have that conversation with their child.”

Stern says the act and excitement of getting ready for a date and meeting new people is important for everyone, including single parents.

Restaurants, museums, PTA meetings, they’re all great places to start:

(Stern) “I also believe a lot of people meet through friends. Mutual introductions are always a great way to meet somebody. Then there are also all these online dating websites where people are meeting today.”

Be clear about having kids in the beginning, says Stern and remember, you don’t “have baggage”, you’re a “package deal.”
