Sprint Cup Series Gets a Weekend Off
NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series drivers enjoy a break in the schedule this weekend, Furniture Row Racing gets a new car and driver and some future Hall of Famers get a special honor at Darlington.
FOX’s Marghiee Teshineh presents “FOX in the Fast Lane”:
The NASCAR Sprint Cup series is on a break this week and at this point in the regular season, Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin all have multiple wins and clinched a place in the Chase.
Hamlin, after winning the Daytona 500 in February finally got his second win of the season at Watkins Glen and says the No. 11 car is peaking just at the right time:
(Hamlin) “I really think that we have turned the corner, uh really with all our Toyota teams.”
Furniture Row Racing next year becomes a two car team as Erik Jones, currently racing in the XFINITY Series moves up to the Cup Series to pilot the “77” car and Martin Truex Jr. has signed a two year contract extension with Furniture Row through the 2019 season.
2017 Hall of Fame inductees Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick and Mark Martin will serve as Grand Marshals at the Southern 500 at Darlington on Labor Day weekend.
And next week the Cup Series races at Bristol Motor Speedway.
