Riding Around Rio as Olympic Games are Set to Begin
Hundreds of thousands of people are descending on Rio for the Summer Olympics and the city streets can’t seem to handle it.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:
As you drive across Rio, the scenery changes quickly… Run-down Favelas line the hillsides, right along some of the city’s major highways, sidewalks almost barren after dark.
Tourist neighborhoods, like Copacabana flash in neon, the streets packed with some of the half-million visitors in town for the Games.
The infrastructure here has been much talked about, the population of Rio has exploded in the past several decades, and things we might take for granted, like water treatment plants, just haven’t kept up and yes, at times, you can smell it… The wafting of salty air off the ocean, mixed in places with exhaust fumes and sewage.
