Motown’s Back on Broadway… Founder Berry Gordy Approves

With an $800 loan from family members, a former prize-fighter turned songwriter launched a record label and the careers of stars like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Motown founder Berry Gordy also launched a media empire.

Before the landmark New York restaurant Sardi’s unveiled Gordy’s caricature, FOX’s Jane Metzler talked with Gordy about his illustrious career, the return to Broadway of “Motown: The Musical,” and how recent events compare to what Motown artists wrote and sang about in the 60’s and ‘70’s.
