Kid Straight Outta Compton Channels Inner Wright Brothers

A California teenager is attempting to be the youngest African American to fly a plane around the continental United States.

    FOX’s Gary Baumgarten reports:

One might think 16-year-old Isaiah Cooper is a poor candidate to complete this feat, after all he’s lived in a gang infested Compton, California neighborhood, witnessing his first murder when he was just seven.

But the student pilot was pulled from a possible life of crime by an inner city aviation program, which trains at risk youngsters. He says he wants to be an inspiration to other Compton teens to stay in school:

(Cooper) “Compton, a lot of kids don’t like science and stuff. They’re like, ‘oh it’s hard and stuff’. I’m like if I can’t pass high school, I can’t do this cause this is really like high school and college math and science.”

Once he gets his license at the age of 18, Isaiah wants to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world.
