A new speaker will take the reigns tomorrow, but former Speaker Paul Ryan leaves behind a legacy, as intriguing as another famous “chosen-one.” Fox’s Chad Pergram with the comparison in today’s “Speaker’s Lobby.”

I’m Chad Pergram with the Speaker’s Lobby.

The Speakership of Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan comes to a close this week.

To understand how Ryan even got the job look no further than Harry Potter and his quest to find a proper wand.

Mr. Ollivander: “The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It’s not always clear why.”

Back in 2015, all Ryan wanted to do was chair the House, Ways and Means Committee.

Toil over the minutia of tax policy.

But the universe often holds different plans for all of us.

Drafting us for roles we didn’t pursue.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was supposed to succeed former House Speaker John Boehner.

Same with former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Just weeks before the House anointed Ryan as Speaker, he claimed he had no interest in the opportunity.

Republicans tried to tap Ryan to run for President on multiple occasions and even challenge Boehner for the role of Republican leader years ago.

Ryan just wanted to Chair the Ways and Means Committee.

But, the wand chooses the wizard.
