Fox’s Chad Pergram talks about Brett Kavanaugh swearing-in as Supreme Court Justice Saturday night
I’m Chad Pergram with the Speaker’s Lobby.
Vice President Pence in his Constitutional capacity as President of the Senate, presided over the confirmation vote of Brett Kavanaugh. It came time for Pence to leave the Capitol after the vote. The Vice President and his security detail were going to exit the building through the big double doors atop the Senate steps.
(PROTESTER’S CHANTING)
They flung open the big double doors only to be met by a cacophony of protesters at the bottom of the Capitol steps and across the plaza. Pence’s motorcade awaited below.
Pence stopped in the door for a moment and surveyed the crowd. The throng grew more vocal once they spotted the Vice President. Some shouted “SHAME! SHAME!” Assistant Senate Sergeant at Arms Jim Morehard told Pence he could exit the Capitol another way.
Pence walked ten paces away then halted then pivoted pivoted. “Let’s do it,” the Vice President told his detail. Pence briskly walked back toward the double doorway..and defiantly walked down the Senate steps. Vice President Mike Pence then slid into a black SUV…and the motorcade sped off the Capitol grounds.
