New Regulations Released for Use of Self-Driving Cars

New regulations are out that will govern the development and future use of self-driving cars in the U.S.

FOX’s Gurnal Scott with the story:

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced in Michigan that the Trump administration has signed off on the new guidelines:

(Chao) “To promote improvements in safety, mobility and productivity through automated driving systems.”

Chao says she’ll lean on manufacturers to make safety the priority and help reduce an estimated 40,000 traffic deaths last year many due to human error. She says these cars can also help the elderly and disabled:

(Chao) “Gain access to the freedom of the open road.”

Secretary Chao says the guidelines will be re-evaluated next year.
