FEMA: Harvey Victims May Be in Shelters for “Quite Some Time”

Federal officials expect a years long recovery for Texas and Louisiana.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Washington:

More than 200 shelters are open in Texas, housing more than 30,000 people. FEMA administrator Brock Long says state and federal agencies are still in a life-saving, life sustaining mode:

(Long) “You know shelters obviously are not ideal. And unfortunately people are going to be there for quite some time.”

Long says the next step is transitioning victims to hotels and once waters recede, mobilizing volunteers to repair flood-damaged homes.

FEMA, he says, will also utilize temporary manufactured housing and trailers.
