The Department of Defense says it killed a terrorist leader associated with al-Qaeda in Somalia.
FOX's Lucas Tomlinson has more from the Pentagon:
The Pentagon's Africa Command now says it killed a senior al-Shabaab leader in a drone strike in Somalia earlier this week.
al-Shabaab is al-Qaeda's third largest affiliate, long seen as the deadliest terror group in Africa. Last year, al-Shabaab tried to bring down an airliner using a non-metallic bomb smuggled on board in a laptop computer.
The drone strike was carried out under new authorities President Trump granted the military, allowing drones to go on the offensive.
