No Pooh For You!… China Bans Lovable Bear

In communist China, even cartoon characters can be considered a threat. Internet censors there apparently taking aim at Winnie-the-Pooh.

FOX’s Alastair Wanklyn reports from the Asia Bureau:

Images of Winnie-the-Pooh taken down from social media in China, searches for the bear using his Chinese name get an error message saying that content is illegal.

There’s no comment from authorities. But internet users often use the bear as a euphemism for Chinese President Xi Jinping. They kinda have the same demeanor…

The bear who’s stuffed with fluff was last a target of Chinese censorship four years ago, when internet users matched up an image of Pooh and his friend Tigger with a photo of Xi and President Obama.

China’s Communist Party sensitive to mockery at the best of times. And right now it’s preparing for a once-in-five-years party conference this fall.
