A newly discovered shrimp named after a legendary band.

FOX's Rich Denison reports:

A scientist has discovered a new species of shrimp and is honoring his favorite band by naming it Synalpheus Pinkfloydi.

The pistol shrimp, discovered off the coast of Panama, not 'The Dark Side of the Moon', can produce one of the loudest sounds in the ocean, capable of stunning or killing fish much larger than its size of less than a quarter of an inch...

It creates the sound with its relatively large pink claw and it's believed it uses it as a way to scare off predators...

While tiny, the shrimps sonic blast can be picked up by sonar on submarines or heard by divers.
