Red Wings’ Playoff Streak is History

A little piece of hockey history comes to an end.

FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

For the first time in 25 years, the Detroit Red Wings are not going to the NHL playoffs…

A 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last night eliminating the Red Wings from contention and ending the longest active playoff streak in the big four pro sports:

(Blashill) “The line between winning or losing in this league is so minimal. There’s lots of games where you are right there and you’ve got to make a play.”

Detroit coach Jeff Blashill.

This was the third-longest playoff streak in NHL history, behind the bruins 29-year run that ended in 1996 and the Blackhawks’ 28-year run in the ’70’s, ’80’s and ’90’s.

The San Antonio Spurs of the NBA now hold the longest active streak at 20 years.
