Colo, The Nation’s Oldest Gorilla, Turns 60

    And a milestone for the very special primate.

    FOX’s Lilian Woo reports: 

    The nation’s oldest living gorilla has just turned 60. Colo, of the Columbus Zoo in Ohio surpassing the usual life expectancy of captive gorillas by two decades.

    Veterinarians for the mother of three, grandmother of 16, great grandmother of 12 and great great grandmother of three say she’s doing well even though she recently had surgery to remove a malignant tumor.

    The oldest male gorilla, Ozzie, lives at the Atlanta Zoo, which has a geriatric gorilla specialty. Some other senior animals include a 13-year-old rabbit in Seattle. A 54-year-old Asian elephant in Oregon, the oldest male of his species in North America.
