Tonga’s Flag Bearer from Rio Olympics Wants to Hit the Slopes in 2018

It’s ‘Cool Runnings’ all over again! But could go even more viral.

FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

Pita Taufatofua is best known as Tonga’s oiled-up flag bearer from the Rio Olympics this past summer. The first Taekwando Olympian from the Polynesian Archipelago. Now, he tells fans on his social media that he wants to be the nation’s second-ever Winter Olympian:

(Taufatofua) “I want to be taking my Olympic dream one step further and I’m going to be representing Tonga in Tonga’s cross-country skiing, the first ever male cross-country skier.”

Taufatofua was knocked out in the first round in Taekwando in Rio, but that’s not what he’s remembered for, anyway:

(Taufatofua) “The Polynesian spirit isn’t going anywhere.”

He’ll have to qualify for the 2018 Games in South Korea. If he does, we’ll see if the weather will force him to wear a shirt.
