China reacting to President-elect Donald Trump’s comments suggesting he may reconsider America’s standoff relationship with Taiwan.
FOX’s Alastair Wanklyn reports from the Asia Bureau, Beijing is warning of major damage to ties:
China’s foreign ministry saying greater U.S. recognition of Taiwan would damage relations between Washington and Beijing.
This, after President-elect Donald Trump broke with diplomatic protocol by taking a phone call from Taiwan’s leader… He told FOX:
(Mr. Trump) “I fully understand the one-China policy, but I don’t know why we have to be bound by the one-China policy unless we make a deal with China.”
Mr. Trump said trade is one area where China benefits at U.S. expense.
