It is the nation’s highest civilian honor: The Presidential Medal of Freedom and Bruce Springsteen among 21 selected to receive it for their contributions to the United States, other honorees:

(Scully) “I have said enough for a lifetime.”

Retired sportscaster Vin Scully, voice of the L.A. Dodgers:

(De Niro) “You talkin’ to me?”

Actor director and activist Robert De Niro, colleagues Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Cicely Tyson and Diana Ross.

Other recipients:

(Degeneres) “In hindsight should that have gone on Facebook.”

Comedian and talk show host Ellen Degeneres. ‘Saturday Night Live’ creator Lorne Michaels. Philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates:

(Abdul-Jabbar) “I’m Michael Jordan!”

Actually, that’s former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He and fellow legend Michael Jordan honored at the White House ceremony next Tuesday.
