Mixed Feelings on Health Related Issues on Ballots

Mixed results for health related ballot questions around the country.

FOX’s Lisa Brady has “Housecall for Health”:

Four more cities passing a so-called soda tax on sugary beverages, including Oakland, San Francisco and a bay area neighbor and Boulder, Colorado, months after Philadelphia became the first major U.S. city to do it.

The tax aimed in part at helping to curb childhood obesity and illnesses including diabetes. Tax hikes on cigarettes were rejected in Colorado, North Dakota and Missouri, but California voters approved a hike of two-dollars a pack, also raising taxes on other tobacco products and nicotine used with e-cigarettes, after recently raising the smoking age to 21.

Opponents argue most of the new tax revenue won’t be used for tobacco prevention and control programs and that it could boost black market cigarette sales.

California voters also rejecting a ballot measure aimed at curbing some prescription drugs prices and another measure that would have required porn actors to use condoms.
